Kobe’s K9’s

Kobe’s K9s believes in the power of companionship.

Our mission is to help kids thrive through cancer by matching them with highly trained service dogs.

This creates a mutual relationship of love and care that we call vital companionship – the bond that fosters purpose, focus, and joy in the face of uncertainty.

Our story: More love every day

When our son Kobe was diagnosed with cancer at 12 years old, our world changed overnight.

Facing a long battle with a brain tumor, endless hospital stays, and moments of isolation, he found hope and companionship in an unexpected place—his dog, Dolly.

The unconditional love and support his furry friend provided became a lifeline in his healing journey. At the same time, with the responsibility of caring for a dog, Kobe had to move around every day and focus on providing care and attention for something outside of his treatment and discomfort. Dolly offered a much-needed distraction and a sense of control over something meaningful in his life.

Experiencing firsthand the profound impact of an emotional support animal in a child’s battle with cancer, we knew we had to bring that same life-changing bond to more kids in need.

How it works

For children aged 8-16 undergoing cancer treatment, a service dog provides more than support – it offers friendship, distraction, and hope. Our dogs help kids find comfort during treatment while giving their families moments of relief.

We fund the training of emotional support dogs to provide comfort and companionship to children battling cancer. Once a family completes our application process and meets our care qualifications, we match them with a specially trained dog – bringing love, support, and resilience into their journey.

Treatment is a journey, and there are blessings to be found along the way.

We are more than a non-profit, we are a personal, hands-on community. We connect deeply with families, supporting them throughout their journey. We’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact a trained service dog can have, and we are dedicated to bringing this love and healing to more children.
